THE WINE

Il Giglio comes from the selection of the best Sangiovese and Syrah grapes cultivated in three plots on the slopes of the hills of Montespertoli towards Villanuova, a small hamlet located in the countryside of Empoli.

 
 
 
 

Type: IGT (Typical Geographical Indication) 2020 Organic.

Production Area: Empolese Valdelsa.

Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Cultivation of vines: Guyot.

Vinification and aging: Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature with long maceration on the skins, consecutively after racking malolactic fermentation always carried out in steel at controlled temperature. Aging in 500lt French oak barrels, for a period ranging from 6 to 18 months, depending on the potential of the vintage

Grapes: 87% Sangiovese, 13% Merlot.

Harvest: Second decade of September, hand picked in boxes of the best grapes from the Farm “Poggiarello”.

Organoleptic notes: Intense red color, aroma characterized by floral hints with notes of berries and a slight spiciness. The taste is balanced and satisfying with recall of olfactory notes.

Food pairings: Structured first courses, red meat, game, aged cheese and cold cuts.

THE VINEYARD

The farming in Guyot allows to renew every year the plant to improve its growth, choosing among the shoots the only one suitable to be folded and bear fruit. A complex technique, which requires great attention and can ensure greater consistency in production. At the same time, the grapes keep their characteristics intact and the vineyard benefits from a healthier and longer life.
